I’ve Retired!

Posted on 0 min read

By the way, that’s not me in the photo of the couple dancing. I felt I needed to point that out! So, this is my very first blog post and it’s finally happened to me. Retirement! I’m only 59, and after suffering with Emphysema and a couple of other problems following a bout of Pneumonia in 2013, my employer, with the help of Doctors and Consultants decided that it was in everyones interests to let me retire.
It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, ever since I left school, my one ambition was to retire, I know, it’s quite sad! I didn’t want it to happen like this though, through ill health, I wanted to go to 65 and walk away into the sunset, relatively healthy and a plan to do all the things I wanted but couldn’t because I was working.
So what do I do next? I’ve never been stuck for something to keep me busy, and I’ve been lucky in the sense that most of my interests are sedentary subjects such as drawing, photography, digital art, playing guitar and reading.

Something I have been interested in for a long time is The Blog!

Although I’m not well, I’m certainly not at that point where I am going sit in my corner and wait. I’m fortunate to be able to enjoy the things I want to do the most, there are so many who are not, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing.

Having worked many different shifts for so many years, it’s easy for me to get into the routine of getting up early every day, with the exception of Sunday, and I feel it’s important that I stay with this. If I can get 6 hours of quality sleep and be up by 7:30am every morning, then I’m happy with that. Other things are not so easy to give up, the more habitual things in life caused by years of daily routine. For example, a few days ago I was really very poorly, I’m not sure what it was, but it caused me to be bed bound for a day or two. My first reaction on not being well was to make sure I phoned my boss at work!!! Doh, but I’m retired, I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
Something I have been interested in for a long time is the ‘blog’. Time was always an obstacle to me in setting up a blog, however, that part of the problem has now been removed. I’ve been computer literate for a long time, so setting up a blog and the technicalities that go along with it are not a big deal for me, although the actual writing and making it worthy of reading might be.

I'd love to hear from you
