A Close Shave

By Posted on 15 Comments 2 min read

My wife cuts my hair as she has done for many years, and I have to say that I’m always grateful for her efforts. A long time ago I bought one of those Remington head trimmers, similar to the ones you see in your local barber shop. You plug it in, fit the required plastic height cutter and away you go. Simples!

I usually select the number 4 setting which trims nicely and leaves me with a decent amount of hair. You can use it without any of the fittings and the trimmer will shave your head of all hair. For some reason, and I have no idea why, I forgot to fit the number 4 adapter, effectively leaving the shaver on its ‘scalping’ setting! My wife didn’t notice either, and to be honest, there’s no reason why she should, as I always set it up. You can guess what happened next.

Yep. I got a fully shaved strip of hair, as can be seen in the photograph. What to do now? I could have just had the lot shaved, but I didn’t want that. So, I asked the wife to put the number 4 cutter on and she finished the job. I looked a right plonker when it was finished. It’s a good job I haven’t got to leave the house much over the next week, otherwise hats would have been the order of the day.

My wife posted the story on Facebook and she has never had so many likes or comments in all her time on there. All of them poking fun at me. I don’t mind, it was all an accident, and if I’m honest, it is something to laugh about, albeit at my expense. Well, if you can’t laugh at yourself, then what can you laugh at?

I made a video about the mishap and posted it to Youtube.

I loved your close shave story. I think about it and it brings laughter! I have cut my husband’s hair along with my sons and now grandsons. My husband said early on – there’s 2 weeks between a good hair cut and a bad hair cut! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Mr. Swiss has a similar hair cutting device: no problem, it works. I will just mention that he does not let me do it now, he prefers to do it himself.

I would do it myself, but I have trouble reaching around the back of my head. I suppose if you shave it all off it’s easier to do.

Funny piece, even funnier vid, comedy is much more important than social credibility … and that titfer’s pretty nifty! 🙂

This gave me a laugh. It’s kind of the opposite to a mohican – here’s a suggestion, why not leave hair to grow for a while, and try one of those next time? 😀

You have a great attitude, thanks for giving me something to laugh about. Your haircut is the opposite of something that gained popularity when punk rock was all the rage – here’s an idea – you could let your hair grow for a while and then shave it into a mohican.

Thanks Jane. You never know, I may just do that. Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it. Thanks for a great idea too.

Absolutely brilliant! And I think it looks great, after all some guys grow a rooster tail over the middle of their head. So why not go the other way and have a ‘mowed path’! 🙂

Thank you, Jude. It’s growing back well now. 🙂
