Bench Series : December is a photographic challenge over at Travel Words. This was taken on my travels to New York. There’s a place on the Brooklyn side of the East River, just below the Brooklyn Bridge called DUMBO. It stands for Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass. This bench is a whole lot of single benches that are bolted together and runs for a long way along the rivers edge at Dumbo.
What attracts me to this bench is the peacefulness it offers in what is probably one of the worlds manic cities. On a hot summers day in August, here are a couple with their child, looking out to the Statue of Liberty and yet the only sounds you can hear are the splashing of the rivers water against the edge. No sirens or noisy traffic, just the peace and quiet that the sound of water can bring.
New York and in particular, Manhattan is a very noisy, exciting place to be, yet it has so many peaceful places where you can sit and enjoy the sights and sound of nature. Central Park is full of benches that meander along its roads, and being such a vast area you can enjoy a multitude of sights whether you prefer birds twittering or joggers, cyclists and musicians all enjoying themselves.
