Bloggers unplugged sounds at first like a band that’s recorded a live album similar to Eric Clapton, without the use of electric instruments. It’s not. It’s today’s Daily Post blog challenge. There’s no denying that the technology of today together with its software has made a huge impact on most peoples lives. Think back 10 or 20 years, no blogging, no social media, no internet or Amazon. What did everyone do?
You can’t help but notice nowadays, youngsters who have been born with an iphone attached to the side of their face, or a notebook stuck to the end of their nose. Walk down any high street and coming at you are thousands upon thousands of younger people, all with their heads bowed to the floor, oblivious to anything around them! Bang, there goes another one as they step out into the road, like Lemmings, straight onto the bonnet of an unsuspecting driver, who hopefully isn’t texting at the same time.
If we have family around for dinner, I hate it if they stick their head into the glowing light of that £500 of communications kit. ‘Put that phone away’, I’ll shout! They look at you as though you’re having a baby. It’s the same with Facebook or Twitter. Everyone has become a Lawyer or a Politician or Photographer. Then there’s the stupid posts, ‘You must share this if you love your children’. Who the heck doesn’t love their children? If you love them, tell them, face to face, not some stupid meme through social media.
There’s no denying that phones, blogging and computers in general have some real benefits. Keeping in touch with family who might be the other side of the world, finding that bargain TV you’ve had your eye on and, dare I say it, blogging. But, there comes a time when we have to switch off, disconnect the phone and perhaps go for a walk. If not a walk, give your partner a hug, tell your kids you love them, eat an orange or maybe sit and reconnect with the world as man has done for centuries. If you can discipline yourself to blog or post to Facebook and Twitter, you can discipline yourself to switch everything off on a regular basis. Set that time everyday and do it, enjoy doing it and when you do re-connect, you’ll feel better and think better.
