How I Like To Blog
Now, here’s a thing. I enjoy blogging and I enjoy blogging as I want to blog. I do try to add a bit of humour into my blog, when possible. However, there’s the odd one that gets a little serious. Oh, and my recipes I’ve started adding, there’s not a lot of humour in them. In a nutshell, I enjoy the way I put my blog together and hope that when you read it, you enjoy it too.
Brow Beating
Like most bloggers, I search the internet for help and information on how I might improve my blog and here’s my problem. Almost all of the so-called professional bloggers that I find, tell me that I’m doing it all wrong. You must find your niche, blog about something you’re passionate about, people want information, you must have a brand. It all feels like a little brow beating (that’s me putting it mildly) after a while.
Entertaining
I have yet to find anywhere that says, “….be yourself…write about whatever you want….make it funny.” How on earth can anyone enjoy blogging if they write for no other reason than to create traffic? One of my reasons for using WordPress is because the community is so diverse and so far, very friendly. I enjoy the blogs I’m subscribed to and find them entertaining as well as informative. Does it mean, according to the so-called experts, that we all go about blogging in the wrong way?
I’ve read blogs by Seth Godin!
Dotty Bagshaws Blog
This wasn’t meant to be a rant, perish the thought, but, I find it so tedious when I’m told that I must have a strategically placed keyword, a title that has a call to action and text that is good for SEO etc, etc. I’ve read blogs by Seth Godin who is supposed to be one of the top 10 bloggers in the universe. From what I can see, he writes a few lines of words which don’t really mean much, not to me anyway and there’s a huge popup asking you to buy his book! Admittedly, he has a lot of visitors, I just don’t get it, though I would sooner read Dotty Bagshaws blog about her daily bunion challenges.
Anyway, I bet there aren’t many bloggers in the top ten that have had their website on the side of a London bus. To all the bloggers that I’m subscribed to out there please keep doing what you’re doing. I enjoy it as I hope you enjoy my blogging adventures.

Invisibly Me
August 15, 2018I’ve never read Seth Godin’s blog, nor have I heard about him, but I’m sure Dotty’s bunion experience is far more thrilling. I much prefer to think success in blogging comes when you’re happy and proud of what you write, when you enjoy the community, love meeting fellow bloggers and finding other great content, and can share something with others in a way that makes you happy, whether that’s to inspire, show solidarity, give people a chuckle, whatever. Throw away the rule-book, it’s all nonsense (coming from a girl who doesn’t make money blogging…) π

August 16, 2018I totally agree. I do my own thing. Critical assessment is not for blogs. To me it’s fun. If it isn’t I’ll stop doing it. Do what you do the way you do it ππ€β€οΈ

August 16, 2018Out of curiosity, did you have your own domain as soon as you started or did you wait before buying your domain with WordPress? I’m trying to figure out when I should switch to my own domain and you’re more upfront about it (and relatable) than most blogs I’ve seen post about this.
admin
August 16, 2018Hi Eunice. I started with my own domain. I was involved with web design back in the early days so it was a natural progression for me to register my own domain when I started using WordPress. I hope that has helped.

August 17, 2018Granted many of the blogs that are about blogging do come over rather heavy handed. But most of their points are correct and donβt forget theyβre writing for those of us who make a living with blogging at least as part of our business.
Iβm slightly offended by your inference.
Blogging isnβt supposed to be fun, except for hobby bloggers. Itβs really hard work to write informative, insightful, and engaging content.
If blogging was only about fun then weβd all be billionaires.
p.s. I actually find Seth Godin very interesting and informative. He offers wonderfully unique perspectives on marketing and the world and how they interact.

August 17, 2018Hi Amanda, no offence meant. I was trying to make the point that whenever I search for help and ideas, nearly every response is the same and as you say, heavy handed. As an example, most seo sites will tell you to write at least 300 words minimum for a post. Then I see Seth Godin and most of his posts are about 100 words or so. It all adds up to confusion. I understand that some bloggers are making a living at it, but Iβm sure even the hobby bloggers can find writing a post really hard work. Big hugz to you and thanks for the reply.

August 17, 2018Part two of my comment! lol
This isnβt to say that hobby blogging is a bad thing. And yes, of course, hobby blogging should be fun or at least satisfying. If youβre looking to be part of a community and love to write or create other content, then WordPress.com and to some degree blogger are perfect for that.
Sorry for getting so defensive earlier.

August 18, 2018Thank you, Kutkamus. Glad you like the photo on the bus. If you’d like one of yourself, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

August 18, 2018Good thought. I definitely think blogging should relate to something we enjoy and want to share with others, regardless of the potential for gathering more followers. Part of the “community” is reading and commenting on other posts as well. I enjoy reading other blogs – although I’m requiring more time to do so. Yes, we keep pressing onward.
admin
August 18, 2018Thank you, Ron. Yes, we all keep pressing onward. It’s the only way.

August 18, 2018I know what you mean. I looked him up on Bing.com search. Seth Godin is an American author and former dot com business executive. To me his blogging maybe more informative on somethings. But I don’t think he has the finesse like we do. My blogging is totally way, way different than his and that’s okay. WHY? Because I am me, not anyone else. And “Silly Old Sod” you are YOU and one heck of a great blogger!!!! ππ»

August 18, 2018Thank you again , Hope. Very kind words, but I enjoy your blog just as much. I agree what you say about being unique and that does make a difference in this blogging world. Too many out there are trying to be something else, sometimes it works, but most times it doesn’t.

August 19, 2018I fully agree, how on earth can anyone enjoy blogging if we write for no other reason than to create traffic?
I like your blog, it’s unique, and so are everyone’s, out there in the blogosphere, and so is mine. We may not like everyone’s blogs but we’ll find our favorites, that’s enough for me. You and many others give me energy and inspiration. Cheers!

August 19, 2018Thank you, Anita. Your words ring true with me. Glad you enjoy my blog. Thank you for yours too.
