Kevin Bacon, Does He Live Here?

By Posted on 52 Comments 2 min read

You know how it is when you move house, friends and relatives want to visit as soon as possible.

No Visiting Allowed Just Yet

We gave out strict instructions that we didn’t want visitors for the first couple of months, while we sorted ourselves out. It can take an age sometimes, just sorting out a new holder for the toothbrushes or somewhere to hide the toilet rolls while I get that noisy flush fixed on the toilet. It must have been around the 6 months time when my cousin and his wife phoned to see if it was ok to come and visit. Fine.

Roadworks?

The date was set and I remember thinking what a gorgeous Autumnal day it was, not a cloud in the sky so they should have a good journey from Birmingham. They were due around lunchtime, so we had the morning to prepare something to eat and drink for when they got here. Outside though, there was something going on that looked like it might be roadworks being set up.

Filming

The road passes the front of our house and a truck pulled up and set portable traffic lights up about a hundred yards away or so. We were intrigued, so went outside to see what exactly was happening. There was a film crew in the centre of the village and the traffic lights had been set up to control through traffic while they filmed. Oooh, excitement! I wonder what they are filming?

Food

There was lots of moving about and people talking to each other on ‘walkie talkies’ even though they were almost standing opposite each other. I even had a guy shout at me in true Hollywood style, ‘Hey, gerrout of shot, will ya!’ So I did and went back home. Our visitors arrived not long after and we all sat down for some lunch. As we were tucking into fresh Turkey and Crab sandwiches with Hellimans sauce and fudge who should turn up outside the window, but none other than Kevin Bacon.

Is That kevin?

Our guests were surprised. They had come to visit us in almost the middle of nowhere and there, standing outside our dining room window is Mr Bacon. “Does he live here?” they asked. “Oh, Kev, no, he’s making a film here” was my reply. At least it took their attention away from the sandwiches. We did manage to get a glimpse outside after and caught part of the scene they were filming where he goes into the local pub, which had been converted into a local shop for the day.

The film was released around September 2020 and our village pub comes shop gets its 15 seconds of fame. It’s called You Should Have Left and is scary.

How exciting to have that happen right in front of your house! I’m afraid I’d have ignored my guests in favor of watching the movie-making.

By the way, I only just noticed E.T. in the corner of your header image. How very unobservant of me.

Haha, I already got told off so I wasnโ€™t going to risk opening the window to ask him in. He was friendly with a few locals though who acted as extras. ๐Ÿ˜Š Thank you, June.

Turkey and crab sandwiches? That sounds fantastic – not something I have ever tried.Lucky you to have something exciting going on nearby. We have planned a meal outside a cafe for Tuesday and it looks as if it might rain.Oh well, I suppose we can be flexible!

Crab, Hellimans sauce and fudge on a sandwich? You monster!

Thatโ€™s pretty damn exciting to have something being filmed nearby, let alone Mr Bacon himself outside your dining room window. As a Bacon fan, I think I must be living under a rock this last year trying to get through Covid because Iโ€™ve not come across You Should Have Left. Definitely adding that to my to-watch list so thanks for the heads up.

Right, I’m moving to the sticks to see if Brad Pitt fancies filming nearby.

Lol, yes it was quite a surprise. The film is a horror/thriller story so I wouldn’t watch it alone, Caz. Thank you for the comment though. ๐Ÿ™‚

So now you’re just one degree of separation from Kevin Bacon, Trev. Or, rather, “Kev.” ;>)

    • Trev
      May 3, 2021

Ha, I did think about that, Mitch. A few of the villagers got to appear very briefly in the film as extras, so I think they will definitely be one degree of separation. Thank you, Mitch.
