Locked In

Checking my emails this morning and among the many of the spam and nonsense ones, a particular subject line caught my eye. Are you still interested in these giant Grannie knickers? It was from one of the big players, Amazon or eBay so my sense of curiosity was immediately raised. I know most people will say, ‘Oh yeah, pull the other one…’, but honestly, I have never looked online for a giant pair of Grannie knickers. Why on earth would I want to? They were big enough to make curtains for the whole house!

New Door

Talking of house, it did remind me of a funny incident when, pre-covid, we went shopping for a new front door. One of those composite, heavy-duty things that are almost impossible to break into. We had used the company before, they had fitted double glazing for us and their shop wasn’t too far away. I have to try and be descriptive here with how the shop was laid out being as it sold windows and doors. Imagine the window at the front, a large plate glass affair and a row of about 6 doors were fitted next to each other. The idea is so the salesman could demonstrate any one of the doors to any interested customer.

The Lock

So, in we go and the layout of the shop inside is such that there is a passageway down to the back of the premises where a salesperson sits dealing with customers and paperwork, well away from the main shop. A nice chap greeted us and demonstrated all of the doors for us, showed us various colours and explained in detail how the locks work. Once you shut the door, if you haven’t got a key, then no way, even with the help of Superman will you regain entry. All sounds very nice and so we decided there and then to buy the nice red double glazed door.

Sometimes….. I am a fool!!!

Locked In

We had to go to the back of the shop to sign the necessary paperwork and leave a deposit etc. On the way out, I said to wifey that I’m going to have one more look at the door which we had purchased, but she needed to get to the chemists a few doors down. Off she went, leaving me to my own devices, which is never a good thing. Opening the door, I stepped through into the shop window part and pulled the door shut as I was interested in how this lock worked. Oh my oh my!! I was stuck in the shop window and there was no way I could get out. I banged on the doors, but the salesman couldn’t hear me as he was down the back of the premises!

I Am A Fool At Times

By now, my frantic banging had drawn a small crowd of onlookers outside the window, all laughing, pointing at me and laughing. I have never been so embarrassed in my life. I tried gesturing to them to come into the shop and let the salesman know, but it was obviously more fun for them to watch me than to let me out. What seemed like an eternity, wifey turned up, saw the commotion outside the shop and came in to get me released. The salesman said it wasn’t the first time that someone had done what I had done. I sloped off wanting the earth to open beneath me. Outside, the crowd of onlookers were still there and fair play to them, they gave me a round of applause. I have never told anyone about this story until now, I hope you can understand why.

Something Different

Because of lockdown conditions that we are all facing now, I’ve been trying to find some good old fashioned comedy to cheer me up. I came across this clip on Youtube, great fun, no smut or innuendos, just very funny. I hope you can enjoy it too. Thank you and have a nice day.

That’s very funny. When you described the storefront, I guessed what was coming. So inevitable! You’d think the store would have kept the door unlocked if someone had done it before.

    • Trev
      February 5, 2021

Thank you, Yeti. I have a feeling the store owner kind of enjoyed seeing people get stuck. At least it demonstrated that the locks worked. ????

I also get strange offers from Amazon, and some of them result in more than a bit of wonderment about how their algorithm decided to offer that particular piece of absurdity. Thanks so much for the comedy link. I’d never seen that particular comedy team before and I howled with laughter watching.
I’ve seen stores with long rows of doors also, but always inside the store so you can’t get locked out that way. Are you sure that they don’t use folks like you as an incidental advert?
