In response to todays Dailypost prompt, Misplaced, it couldn’t have been a better timed prompt for me. Not so long ago I needed new glasses and took up the offer of buy one pair, get one pair free at my local opticians. As anyone knows, these items don’t come cheap, and when there’s an offer of a free pair, I’m there!
It wasn’t too long after taking delivery of the glasses, complete with a Gok Wan designer looking case that I lost the first pair! The strange thing is, I did not have a clue where I last used them. I still have the case, looking very nice complete with a cleaning cloth. Thank goodness I have a second pair. That was until yesterday.
Out shopping with the wife, I had my glasses tucked safely in their case and well secured inside my jacket pocket. I took them out when we stopped for a cup of tea and I checked my phone. However, by the time we had got home at around 5:00pm, I took my glasses case out of my jacket pocket, opened the lid and ‘puffff’, no glasses!!
I have searched high and low, in the car, under the car, on the car roof, the wife has phoned all the stores we visited and nothing! That’s my second pair now, just vanished into thin air. I have an old pair which are not very good, that’s why I had new ones, but they get me through writing this blog. However, I need stronger ones for reading and everyday use, and fortunately, the wife’s glasses seem to have the similar strength to mine that I’ve lost. They’re fine around the house, but I can’t go out wearing them, I look too much like Dame Edna Everage!
I’ll have to make an appointment this coming week to get some new glasses made. I think I’ll get those that have chains attached that go around your neck. In the meantime, I’ll have to put up with looking like an early version of Elton John after a bad night out.

April 10, 2016Oh dear. That can be distressing. Good you have a replacement coming and an extra pair even if they are old.

April 10, 2016Thank you, Jacqueline. It is a nuisance, but as you say, the old pair will see me through the week. 🙂

April 11, 2016I am convinced a gremlin has devoted itself to following me around stealing random items. Based on the number of single gloves, cell phones, reading glasses, and socks that have disappeared over the years, the gremlin must be very happy!

April 11, 2016I think you’re right, a gremlin keeps taking everything, that’s the only sensible explanation.

April 11, 2016I never throw old glasses away because they’re useful for finding the new ones … or mending them when the little screws come loose … I often find I’ve got a screw loose!

April 13, 2016I have to hand it to you, kept your chin up pretty well through all of this. I think the second pair of glasses would have sent me and to some type of a Tizzy but I guess that would do no good either. When they’re gone they’re gone. I have found a missing pair in our sofa, no idea how they got there. As we get older we will seem to lose more items. I did go to BINGO one night without my teeth, I wouldn’t have known until I got home. Some kind person pointed out to me, my smile was different. I hope you find your glasses, all in one piece.
