Peaceful

Today, I thought I’d have a go at the weekly prompt which is ‘Peaceful’. I’ve always found the word peaceful has many different meanings to many people. For example, some folk will find having a pint of beer in a noisy bar is peaceful for them, especially after a week spent earning a living in a noisy factory.

We Are All Different

Others may find listening to chant music a source of peace or chanting themselves with loud words like ‘Om’. Then there’s the old saying ‘silence can be deafening.’ We are all different and yet so similar. For my part, I enjoy the sound of nature, birdsong, rolling rivers, the breeze shaking the trees. If the sun is shining too, then that’s a bonus, but the rain can have a positive part to play too, sometimes.

The Triangle

The photograph above is from a walk that we regularly take, known locally as ‘The Triangle’. It’s just over a mile in length and is triangular in shape with only one small hill to struggle with. Although it’s a road, the traffic is very light. In fact, you’re more likely to come across cyclists or the odd escapee sheep than a car. You can’t see the stream running under the road, which rolls into the River Lugg. On a sunny day, I can find everything I want for my ‘peace’ at this place. Birdsong, flowing river, a breeze, sheep baaing and the knowledge that Mother Nature is looking after me.

The Beauty of Leaves

Even if there’s a gentle drizzle, this place is still beautiful to me. In winter, I find it a little too harsh, but I’m always reminded that spring and summer are not far away and all will be well again. Have you ever looked at a fallen leaf in Autumn? Its colour, the whole beauty of it, is a natural work of art. These things are a part of our world, yet many folks will sweep them up without a second thought. I’m getting a bit deep here, even for my liking, but I am sure it’s because we’ve found our ‘peaceful’ place on this earth that is making me like this.

A Variety of Birdlife

We see birds here that we would never see in the city. Siskins, House Martins, Swallows, Swifts and so many more. The Owl hoots away most nights while the river continues its endless meandering in the background. This is the meaning of ‘peaceful’ for me. The world going about its business as Mother Nature intended, providing everything we want and more. If only it could be like this the world over. As Louis Armstrong sang, ‘What A Wonderful World’.

I’ve enjoyed writing this post. It’s made me think, how much finding peace means to me. John Lennon was right when he wrote ‘Give Peace A Chance’. He knew.

The scene in the photo sure looks peaceful to me. Speaking of gentle drizzle, earlier today, I took a few minutes just to listen to the rainfall outside the open window – lovely.

Thank you, Sue and with the weather at its finest today, it truly is peaceful and beautiful. I have no idea why my ping failed, but I have a sneaky suspicion it is something to do with the host provider. I shall delve further. Thank you again, Sue.

Hi, Trev. This 2019 post just popped up again on my notifications as a reblog on Weekly Prompts! I read my previous reply and now I can’t understand what the ???s meant. I can only assume it was a mistake and I leaned on the keyboard or something.

Did you mean to post again or was it a mistake? Or is this another mistake from WordPress.🙂

I have been reworking my blog and generally tidying up, but I have no idea why it would repost. WordPress seems to be acting a little strange lately. 😊
