I love a great sunset and with the extraordinary summer we’ve been having in the U.K. this year, they have been in abundance. As photography is one of my loves, I’m usually armed with a camera wherever I am, even if it’s my phone. The sunset in the photograph was taken about a month ago at Penybont, Powys. It’s about 4 miles from where we live, but the scenery is spectacular whatever the season.
The area is a mile or so of open road with nothing but roaming sheep, sometimes cows and the odd vehicle. I think I’m right in saying that the hills you can see in the picture are part of the Elan Valley. There are plenty of lay-by’s to pull over and enjoy the scenery. However, on this occasion, we had deliberately gone there to catch a sunset. This was the best shot I managed. If I had waited any longer, the sun would have disappeared behind the clouds.
It amazes me that the sunset in this landscape has been happening since the year dot! The same as many places the world over. Quite possibly, this photograph would have looked exactly the same if it had been taken in 1570 or earlier. I find that fascinating. We are but a people passing through this world at this particular time. I’m getting a bit too deep again, I apologise.

August 7, 2018What a beautiful picture Trev. You are getting a bit deep, but I understand and appreciate every word. I agree it’s sometimes hard to equate life, death and what we continue to see. I wonder if they loved it as much as we do.

August 7, 2018I think that’s an interesting reflection, about passing through the scenery really in this world. Puts things into perspective. Beautiful sunset, there really is something about them that makes them to tranquil and hypnotic to look at 🙂
