I do like to keep my camera with me whenever possible as you never know what might reveal itself. And so it was on this cool autumnal/fall morning as I strolled through my local grave yard. This is quite a large, old graveyard filled with hundreds of graves and crypts, and there’s nothing better than a stroll through its grounds, the meandering paths winding their way past those that have gone before.
I like to stop and read the epitaphs and dates of those buried deep within the stone memorials as well as pay my respects. Some have been there so long, the weather has eroded any legible evidence of its occupants. I have so many times through there that I know the names like old friends. Many moons ago, I walked through there alone on Christmas Eve as it was the shortest route home after celebrating with my friends in the pub! I can tell you, I was ‘well oiled’ when I entered the graveyard, yet I was stone cold sober and had sticky up hair when I left!
However, back to my autumnal/fall stroll and the photograph above. It’s the first time I have passed this crypt on my travels, and it is certainly the only time I have ever seen anything like this. On the floor outside can quite clearly be seen a delivery of fresh milk and to the right is a copy of a ‘Kleeneze’ brochure, still in its plastic wrapping. Note the importance of carrying a camera. I looked around to see if anyone else was about or even a milkman that may have just made a delivery, but as usual when you hope there’s someone, nothing!
It has puzzled me ever since and I’ve been a few more times to see if there have been any more deliveries of milk or indeed if there are any empty bottles left for collection by the milkman. I’ve seen nothing! I’m sure there’s a simple answer to this, but at this time I’ll just have to put it down to experience. Real tales from the crypt.

January 6, 2016So what the heck? Fresh milk? That’d really bother me, to the extent I’d probably stake the place out and watch to see who (or what) showed up! It might be a tradition thing…isn’t there some old folk lore that included putting out fresh milk for the fairy folk? But I thought they put it in a saucer, .like for the cat. Wow. I love old graveyards, but I think that particular crypt would have given me “sticky-up hair” too!!
