I love a great story, especially when it’s a guy trying to make his way in the world and he comes up with the simplest of ideas and makes it his own. Meet Mike Harvey from South Wales. He loves to travel, but it’s expensive, so he took a job as a cab driver to supplement his income. Nothing unusual about that you might think.
Mike came to love his new job driving people from a to b in his taxi, so much so he started to keep a diary of his daily trips. He would chat with his passengers and write down the conversation he had with them. Then he had the idea of taking photographs of every one of his Fares, with their permission of course. Taxi! Smile please, is his response. He started to capture the diverse population that have journeyed in the back of his cab between Neath and Swansea, and soon attracted attention from the local BBC then the national TV stations and the internet.
He wants to take his idea further afield and has his sights set on Mumbai, India as he thinks it would be a great place to photograph taxi passengers.
