The Conjuring

By Posted on 6 Comments 1 min read

This weeks Photo Rehab Cover Challenge is based on the horror movie ‘The Conjuring’. I’ve used a photograph of a building that is local to where I live. It has a sort of Gothic feel to it and it is situated just inside the gates of the cemetery, so I suppose it lends itself well to a horror story.

I admit to being quite a fan of the Saw movies, but I don’t watch modern horror movies as a rule. I think with modern film effects combined with stories that are based on truth, it scares me to death, which I suppose is what they are designed to do! I enjoy the Dracula and Frankenstein films of the 1960s.

For this challenge, I took my original colour photograph of the building and changed it to black and white. Then just layered noise and fog with the odd lighting filter added here and there for effect. I have also used a photograph I had of a character wearing a hoodie and you can just see him walking towards the light on the path. The original film was based in a farm, but I couldn’t find any farmhouses in my archive, so I’m hoping this Gothic building adds the desired effect.

I'd love to hear from you

Wow, very nice! I love watching horror movies. The Conjuring is in fact my favorite. Your photo made me want to visit the house. I went inside a so-called haunted house in a City called Baguio (North of Philippines) last month. You may want to take a look: http://cessgonzaga.com/2015/11/19/laperal-white-house/

Thank you, Lucille. I’m not a lover of horror either, but I love these cover challenges.
